UFC’s Mir to face off against Cormier in Strikeforce bout

In a strange turn of events, the UFC and their sister affiliate Strikeforce have agreed on a matchup between former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champion Daniel Cormier.

Strikeforce dissolved their 265-pound division last December and hosted a grand prix tournament to claim the final champion. Cormier, who boosted his record to 10-0, defeated former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Josh Barnett by unanimous decision in May and Strikeforce reps ruled that Cormier must defend his belt at least once. Enter the two-time UFC champion, Frank Mir.

Mir, who is coming off a loss to heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, will make a temporary transition to Strikeforce for the promotion’s final heavyweight bout.
